What this is
Walk-In Menu is a tool that suggests recipes from food you say you have. It is provided as is, with no guarantee that it will be available or error-free.
In the phone app, our full Privacy Policy and Terms of Use also apply. The sections below marked "phone app" replace the browser and desktop versions.
Plans
- Plans. Free gives 3 recipes per request, use-it-up mode and budget mode. Plus (£4.99 a month or £49.99 a year) gives 5 recipes and adds tap-to-add items, a herbs & spices cupboard, use-by dates, swaps, a meal planner, time, difficulty and cuisine choices, and calories and nutrition, plus AI · quick recipes (up to 20 AI requests a day). Pro (£9.99 a month or £99.99 a year) gives 10 recipes and adds AI · best recipes, Ask the chef, themed menus, drink pairings, challenge-me recipes, equipment filters, a taste profile and herb & spice warnings (up to 40 AI requests a day, of which up to 10 can be AI · best). Free can make recipes 3 times a day and Plus 10 times; Pro has no daily limit on offline recipes. Offline recipes and allergy and diet settings are on every plan.
- AI requests are counted per subscription and reset at midnight (UK time). Each AI recipe batch, Ask the chef message and AI shopping list is one request. Offline recipes don't count.
- Paying. Plus and Pro are subscriptions bought in the app through the App Store (Apple ID) or Google Play (Google account). Apple or Google takes the payment; we never see your payment details. You're shown the price, in your own currency, and how often it's charged before you pay. Prices above are UK prices including VAT.
- Free trial. Where a plan offers a free trial, nothing is charged during it. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends, the subscription starts at the price shown and is charged then. Apple and Google allow one free trial per Apple ID or Google account.
- Renewing and cancelling. A subscription renews automatically each month or year until you cancel. Cancel at least 24 hours before it renews in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings (Settings → Plan → Manage subscription opens them): you keep the plan until the end of the period you've paid for, and you won't be charged again. Switching between Plus and Pro is done in the app; the store adjusts the price. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their rules. Your statutory rights are not affected.
- New phone? There's no account to sign in to. Install the app, then press Settings → Plan → Restore purchases while signed in with the same Apple ID or Google account, and your subscription comes back.
- Meal plan uses built-in recipes. Its shopping list leaves out what your kitchen list says you have, so check your cupboards before you shop.
- If prices change, you'll be told before your next payment, and you can cancel before it's taken.
How recipes are made
- Offline recipes are put together on your device from built-in recipe ideas. They send nothing anywhere.
- AI recipes (quick or best) are written by an AI model. Quantities, timings and thawing notes can be wrong, so use your own judgement.
- Cook meat, poultry and fish until steaming hot all the way through. Thaw frozen food in the fridge, and don't refreeze food that has fully thawed unless you have cooked it first.
- Suggestions are not allergy, medical or nutritional advice. Always check ingredient labels for allergens.
- Allergies & diet. Recipes leave out the allergens and dietary needs you choose, and the app marks ingredients it recognises as containing them with a red !. It works from ingredient names, so it can't know what's in a particular product (for example a stock cube or sauce brand) and can't guarantee a recipe is free of an allergen. Always check labels, especially for a serious allergy.
- Calorie and nutrient figures (fat, saturates, carbohydrate, sugars, fibre, protein and salt) are rough estimates per serving, worked out by the AI or, for offline recipes, from typical ingredient amounts. They are not accurate enough for medical or diet-plan use; check product labels if you need exact figures.
- Use-by and best-before dates are whatever you enter. The app uses them to suggest what to cook first and leaves fridge food past its use-by date out of recipes, but it does not check your food. Always follow the date and storage instructions on the pack, and do not eat food after its use-by date, even if it looks and smells fine.
- Drink pairings are suggestions for adults aged 18 or over, and every one comes with an alcohol-free option. If you drink, please drink responsibly: see drinkaware.co.uk. Don't drink alcohol if you are pregnant, driving or taking medicines that warn against it.
- Cooked it changes your kitchen list on this device only, using the amounts in the recipe. Herbs, spices and small amounts are left alone. Check the amounts it sets.
- Ask the chef is an AI chat. Its changes to a recipe can be wrong in the same ways as any AI recipe.
- The example recipes shown before you make your own are illustrations only.
Your data
- No account, no tracking. No cookies, analytics or advertising, and nothing is loaded from other websites, so there is no cookie banner.
- What you type stays on the page. Your kitchen, including any use-by or best-before dates you add, is saved on this device while "Save my kitchen on this device" is on, which it is unless you turn it off. Turning it off, using "Delete my saved data", or clearing your browser data deletes it. Nothing is saved anywhere else. You can export a backup file under Settings → Your data. Your plan choice, and your herbs & spices list and whether it's switched on if you change them, are saved on the device so the app remembers them.
- Allergies and dietary needs you choose are saved only on this device. They are sent with AI requests (and Ask the chef) so recipes avoid them; this is health information, so only choose what you're happy to send. Offline recipes send nothing.
- Subscriptions. If you subscribe, Apple or Google takes the payment under their own privacy policies. RevenueCat (our subscription service, USA) receives the store's purchase record with an anonymous ID made on your phone, so the app knows which plan you have and Restore purchases can find it again; see RevenueCat's privacy policy. No name, email or account is needed. This phone keeps only that anonymous ID and your plan, so paid features work offline. Your kitchen and recipes are never sent to Apple, Google or RevenueCat.
- Liked and favourite recipes, the style of dish you file them under, and your default cooking nights are kept only on this device and are never sent anywhere. Remove them any time under Liked & favourites.
- Taste profile: the recipes you mark "I like this" are kept only on this device, and a short summary of them (favourite cuisines, ingredients and dishes) is sent with AI requests while "Learn what I like" is on. Clear it any time under Cook → More options. Your equipment list is kept on the device too.
- Meal plan and shopping list are saved on this device while "Save my kitchen on this device" is on (the default). When AI is on, making a shopping list sends the chosen dinners' ingredients and your kitchen list to Claude; otherwise the list is worked out on your device.
- Offline recipes are made entirely on your device; nothing is sent.
- When you make AI recipes (or use Ask the chef or an AI shopping list), your kitchen list, amounts, dates and choices, your allergies & diet and any diet or mood text (and on Pro a short taste summary) go through Walk-In Menu's server to Anthropic, which runs the Claude AI model that writes them (Claude Haiku 5.5 for quick, Claude Sonnet 5.5 for best). You are asked for permission the first time. Our server keeps the request and the reply only until they reach your device (at most a day), together with a scrambled form of your anonymous subscription ID and a daily count of AI requests (kept for a few days) to apply your plan's limit; the server asks RevenueCat with that ID whether you subscribe. Anthropic processes the request for us under its Commercial Terms and privacy policy, in the USA, with approved safeguards for transfers outside the UK.
- AI recipes are for adults: you must be 18 or over to use them.
- Please don't type personal details, such as names or health information. The app doesn't need them.

The app uses no photographs or third-party images, and uses your device's own fonts.
